My description writing

Hello In week 8 term 2 we learned how to write good descriptions. We had to choose an animal and use our senses to help describe it. We needed nouns, verbs and adjectives and we could use a simile if we wanted to. Here is my published description. We had partners and we had to help each other.

What am I ?
I am an animal. I am a herbivore and I am a mammal.I live in Africa.

I have a body shaped like a horse with black and white stripes. I have short, pointy ears, and a tail like a dust brush.
I can walk, trot and run like a horse on my four legs. Sometimes I can run as fast as a car.

My baby is so cute and so soft. I feed it milk and take care of it.

Fun Friday

Hi Our class is raising money for our ski trip in term 3 and we all had to get in teams and run games or make food for  a Fun Lunchtime. My group did a game called Spy and you had to climb through a whole lot of strings that looked like lasers. Freedom had the idea from a movie. lots of kids came and tried our game and we made lots of money.

My argument about cats

Kia ora  Here are the cue cards for my argument/speech about cats are the best pets. I worked in a group with Hollie, Ashton, Quintin and Taylor. Mrs B helped us and we all had to say our speech in class. the red dots are where you put the holes for each card.

OriginalCats make the best pets.

Do you have a cat as a pet?Original

I believe that cats make the best pets in the world.

Original
Firstly, they are fluffy and warm to cuddle. Secondly, they catch and eat rats and mice.Thirdly, they bury their woopsies in the garden and don’t poo on your lawn.

OriginalCats are mammals which are warm-blooded animals which have hair on their bodies. The hair on cats is very fine and soft which makes them nice to cuddle. Do you remember the last time you stroked a cat? Do you remember running your hand over their lovely fur while you listened to their delicious, rumbly purr? There is hardly a person on the planet who can resist the cuddliness of a cat.
OriginalCats help keep our homes free of unhealthy rats and mice by hunting and eating them. If you have a cat you don’t have to worry about setting nasty traps and leaving them to lurk in secret corners inside your house where you forget about them until an awful pong lets you know you caught something. Eeeeeerrrrkkkk!!! Then you have to get the disgusting dead thing and get it out of your house without spewing everywhere. When you have a cat, it’s their job to get rid of rodents and they happily do it for no pay at all. You don’t have to lift a finger.

OriginalYour pet cat will never leave stinky piles of poo on your lawn like dogs do. Cats always bury their business in a hole in the garden. They do this so that other cats who might invade their territory and fight them have a harder job to find them. You have to admit that’s much more clever than dogs who just leave putrid piles everywhere. Also, your flowers get some fertiliser added to the soil they are growing in. What helpful pets cats are! Cute, cuddly and also clean and clever.
OriginalSo, I am sure you must agree with me. Cats are scrumptiously lovely to cuddle, they keep your house free of nasty pests, and they are clean and tidy little creatures. They are definitely the best pets of all.

Reading arguments

Our class has been learning how to write speechs  and  an argument and this is what we did in reading to help us in this activity. We had to use colours to match them.

The first paragraph of an argument is called the THESIS. A THESIS is something that you believe. In a piece of argument writing, a THESIS is made up of two parts. Part 1 is your sentence about what you believe. This is called a POSITION STATEMENT.

Part 2 is made up of three sentences each of which tells one argument in support of what you believe. This is called your PREVIEW OF ARGUMENTS. These three sentences start with Firstly, Secondly and Thirdly.

In this exercise you need to match a POSITION STATEMENT with a PREVIEW OF ARGUMENTS.Use the ‘Fill tool’ to colour code the matching statements.

I believe that no one should be able to have more than two children.
Firstly, they are much cleaner than dogs. Secondly, they are easier to look after. Thirdly, they are much softer and fluffier than dogs.
I believe that dairy farmers are not doing enough to prevent pollution of waterways on their land.
Firstly, chocolate is something people get addicted to.Secondly, often it is very expensive.Thirdly, people have been known to kill for chocolate.
I believe that homework should be banned.
Firstly,we have had too many male Prime Ministers who were ineffective. Secondly, females tend to think people are more important than money. Thirdly, females usually are much better at creating good teamwork.
I believe that chocolate is a drug.
Firstly, both parents work full time nowadays. Secondly, raising children is very expensive. Thirdly, large families lead to cramped, unhealthy living conditions.
I believe that future Prime Ministers of NZ should all be female.
Firstly, homework is ineffective. Secondly, it is unfair. Thirdly, kids have better things to do after school.
I believe that cats make better pets than dogs.
Firstly, farmers are not completing the fencing of waterways on time. Secondly, they are leaving gaps in fences that stock can get through.Thirdly, they spray too much effluent onto paddocks which drain into creeks.

Time task

Hello This is one little pre-test I did at the start of our time unit. I didn't do very well and when I showed my results to my teacher she made me look at the amount of time I took to do the test-it was only four and a bit minutes. She says I was rushing and not being careful. I need to get better at telling time when it says, quarter to and quarter past and when it shows other times in minutes.
