PAT Maths

Kia ora
This is my Maths PAT test results.
I am really disappointed about my score. It was really bad. I could have done way better. I got a score of 15 in Term 1 and this time I only got 12. My friends did really well. I was not thinking straight when I was doing this test because we had been travelling the day before and I only had about a four hour sleep.

PAT test results term 4

Here is a look of my Term 4 results for the PAT comprehension test. When we did the test it was a bit hard.I was kind of pleased about my reading but I think I could do a bit better. In Term 1 I scored 17 and in Term 4 I scored 22.

Raw Meat

Last week Harold came in the Life Ed caravan and we were  learning about body parts. I learnt that the three  main things a body needs are: water, oxygen and food. Therefore, a body has to have organs and body systems which make use of the water, oxygen and food.  Our teachers decided we should observe some real organs that we had been learning about. I'm sorry to say that several sheep died so that we could do this!!! After we did our observations, drawings and notes, I wrote an acrostic poem .

This is an activity we did when we were learning how to write using our senses.
Something I think I have done well  is writing my sentences but
next time I think I could improve my show not tell .Here is my story.

Ghost Town.

The creaking floor was rocking back and forward as I kept on walking. I looked at the beds and saw crumbled wall bits that have fallen and they were still falling as I was walking. A stinky smell seemed to drift around the room. Red stuff was dripping from the roof and down the wall. I wouldn’t dare to touch it.

The build up for the science fair.

Kia ora

For the last couple of weeks we have been working on our Science Fair projects. My group Me Freedom, Cyprus and Kayne are doing a balloon car. Freedom's car goes 20 meters my car goes 14 meters Kayne car goes 7.5 meters and Cyprus car goes 2 meters. We predict that the more air we blow into the balloon, the larger the balloon will be and the faster the car will go.

Science experiment.

Kia ora
We are learning how to read and write scientific reports. We have been doing experiments and writing about them. This is a reading activity we did. We had to be able to match a title for a report with a wondering question.

We are learning how to understand the structure and language of a report about a scientific experiment.
In this exercise you need to match a title with its question. Use the ‘Fill tool’ to colour code the matching ideas.
Notice that none of these questions begin with a ‘Why….’.  This is because the purpose of a scientific experiment report is to share what you thought you knew, what you thought would happen and your observations about what actually did happen. It’s a bit like you are saying:
I’m wondering this…..because I know this…...so therefore if I do this I think this might happen.
So, at the end of a successful scientific report, you may not be able to say why something happened but you will be on the way to finding out why.
Then, when you do find out why, you will have to learn how to write an Explanation. The purpose of  Explanation writing is to answer Why questions. So, do not be surprised if your teachers decide to teach you Explanation writing later on!!!

Zoofari 2017

Kia ora
This week we went to Auckland zoo on a Zoofari. We all slept in the old elephant house. It was cool but cold and when it went dark you could still see. We saw two cheetahs go for a morning walk around the zoo with their keepers.

I am working on an animal report about tigers and I saw about two or three of them in their cages! They were a bit bigger than I thought they would be. Did you know that a tiger can live up to about 20-26 years.
